Home Economics facilitates the development of knowledge and skills to assist with the growth of each student. We believe this is achievable by engaging and educating young people in a variety of home economics contexts such as food, nutrition and health.
It is important for students to be empowered to make healthy choices and take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. We educate our students about the importance of nutrition in their diet and assist in the preparation of nutrition-based meals. Theory in Home Economics is reinforced with the practical component of food preparation.
Stressing the importance of safety, students are taught correct storage and handling operations for the various food types to avoid food spoilage and contamination. Every student must comply to a strict code of conduct for their own safety and that of their peers. Students will be taught correct care and handling procedures regarding kitchen equipment and appliances.
Students will be actively involved and work co-operatively with others in all practical sessions, complete each unit of the workbook to a satisfactory standard and participate in classroom discussion.
