Learning another language is a wonderful experience for students as it broadens their view of the world, allows them to learn how languages work and also improves their English literacy skills. Students also develop understanding and respect for other cultures, people and their ideas and ways of thinking.
All Year 7 and 8 students at Cobden Technical School have access to an amazing Indonesian classroom which has Indonesian language and cultural posters for reference. There are also items from Indonesia including musical instruments, toys, books and puppets from Indonesia. Students are introduced to the culture and people of Indonesia through language tasks which are engaging and fun. One feature of the Indonesian curriculum is the use of film as text, where students are able to watch, enjoy and analyse Indonesian movies.
Students are introduced to the Indonesian language in Year 7, where thery learn numbers, greetings, pronouns, basic introductions and the use of nouns, adjectives and verbs. This is achieved by a variety of language tasks that cover the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking in Indonesian.
